In the Spring of 2018, our radio club and the Hot Spring Village POA reached an agreement allowing us to replace the old existing 440 hut on Mesero Way. Bill Stewart (WA5AQQ) and Chester Robinson (N5MEF) agreed to take on the project. The existing slab was not level, but after some engineering was made ready for the walls in the last week of March. The plan was to pre-build the hut at home in modular form and then transport it to the distant hilltop location. Bill’s garage was better suited for the construction area and that’s where we started. Materials were delivered on April 30, and we started the framing on May 1. The walls and roof were built, C-clamped together, then disassembled to be moved to the final location. When ready, we placed the walls at the site, and with help from fellow members got the assembled roof lifted on. By May 30th, the building had been sheathed inside and out, shingled, painted, electrical placed by the POA, and our radio equipment installed and working.
